Remembering Dr Rizal

Dr Naresh Parajuli, Sydney Australia

I do not know Dr Govinda Rizal personally nor had I the privilege of meeting him. But based on what his friends tell about him, what everybody has written about him in social media and the news, it was very compelling for me to write a few words about Dr Rizal. Like any other Bhutanese who was expelled from Bhutan and had to bear years of suffering in the refugee camps, Dr Rizal was no exception to this. But despite the hardships, he proved himself to be a very smart student and became a very resourceful person later in life. He proved himself to be a very successful person. Besides being a master in his field, Agriculture, he has excelled in others areas as well. I understand that he was a strong community leader, teacher and an activist as well. He was a role model for the new generation Bhutanese and Nepalese community. His untimely demise is a very big loss not only for his family and friends in Nepal but also to the whole Bhutanese community spread over the globe. May his soul rest in peace and his family gather courage to cope with such a tragic loss of a family member.
